Credit Controller and Collector (Level 2)
Monitor and manage customer accounts, follow financial policies to collect money owed to organisations.
Credit management is a dynamic function found across all sectors of UK and international commerce and offers a range of challenging and interesting specialisms. Given the importance of credit management and collections, roles are central to many operations, typically setting policies, facilitating sales, managing financial risk and customer relationships. Through this work, credit management protects cash flow and facilitates all wider business activity.
Commercial teams have significant responsibility and manage high value accounts. Roles are typically fast-paced and target driven, requiring detailed knowledge of law, regulations and the business environment, and skilled practitioners possess excellent technical and interpersonal skills.
The focus of the credit controller and collector role is typically to monitor and manage customer accounts, follow organisational policies to collect monies owed and ensure that work quality targets are met.
Job titles include: credit controller, credit collector, debt collection and Agent third party collection
Accounts or Finance Assistant (Level 2)
Maintaining an efficient and accurate finance function within a business.
The broad purpose of this occupation is to carry out accounting and finance tasks. These tasks support the creation of items such as financial statements and other data. Work is carried out under supervision following set procedures for most tasks. Such tasks may include financial data entry, reconciling figures, trial balances, double-entry bookkeeping, handling accounts payable and receivable.
The accounts or finance assistant is responsible for assisting accountants with routine duties. These can vary depending on the team structure and size of business. They use digital finance and accounting systems and tools to collate and enter data. An accounts or finance assistant’s work would include tasks such as financial and accounting data entry and basic bookkeeping duties. They will also work with sales or purchase ledgers. They will run calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct and may be involved in the recording of cash transactions.
An accounts or finance assistant will gather and input financial data and check that work for errors. They work under supervision to contribute towards the creation of accurate financial statements and data to help the organisation run effectively.
Job titles include: accounts administrator, accounts assistant, accounts payable clerk, assistant bookkeeper, business accounts administrator, cost accountant assistant, junior finance assistant, junior cashier.
Assistant Accountant (Level 3)
Carrying out routine financial activities and support for businesses and organisations of all types and sizes.
This occupation is found in all sectors and industries, including the private and the public sector. This ranges from small organisations through to large global corporations and government bodies.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to support internal and external customers in the administration of their financial and accounting activities. They may work as an assistant accountant in a practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation.
An assistant accountant helps in the operation of day-to-day financial activities. These may include data entry to month end management accounts and year-end financial statements. In addition, the assistant accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements. These may include the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.
An assistant accountant will be responsible for managing their own caseload and time whilst reporting to a more senior accountant.
Job titles include: accounting technician, accounts clerk, assistant accountant, assistant cashier, bookkeeper, finance assistant, purchase ledger clerk, sales ledger clerk.
Professional Accounting or Taxation Technician (Level 4)
Working as an accountant or bookkeeper for an accounting practice, business, organisations or HMRC.
Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting or Tax Technician will have responsibility for creating, and/or verifying and reviewing, accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation.
This will be performed in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards, and will utilise the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organisation.
Job titles include: assistant auditor, assistant management accountant, assistant financial accountant, accounts payable and expenses supervisor, commercial analyst, payroll manager, senior bookkeeper, senior financial officer, tax investigations officer, personal tax assistant, business tax assistant.
