AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting - the four units

This qualification comprises four mandatory units (255 guided learning hours in total), covering double-entry bookkeeping, costing, bookkeeping controls and the business environment.

📒Introduction to Bookkeeping (ITBK)

Understand manual and digital bookkeeping systems, process customer and supplier transactions, handle the cash book and petty cash, and post entries through to the ledger accounts.

🔢Principles of Bookkeeping Controls (POBC)

Build on ITBK with control accounts, journals and reconciliations. Learn bank reconciliation, VAT control accounts, and how to redraft the trial balance following corrections.

📊Principles of Costing (PCTN)

Learn how to classify and cost materials, labour and overheads to calculate unit costs. Compare actual costs against budgeted costs and report variances to management.

🏢The Business Environment (BENV)

Understand contract law, employment law, company law, corporate social responsibility and the digital finance function. Develop communication and data analysis skills for the workplace.

Tutor insight: Double-entry bookkeeping is the cornerstone of this qualification. Once you understand that every transaction affects two accounts, the rest of the course: control accounts, journals and costing, all starts to fall into place naturally.
