The AAT Foundation Award in Accounting Software is a short qualification with one unit. Developed as a stand-alone nationally recognised qualification, the AAT Foundation Award in Computerised Accounting is perfect for those who need to get to grips with computerised accounting software and enhance their current knowledge, allowing them to use such software in the work environment.


Learning outcomes

Enter accounting data at the beginning of an accounting period

  • Set up general ledger accounts, entering opening balances where appropriate
  • Set up customer accounts, entering opening balances where appropriate
  • Set up supplier accounts, entering opening balances where appropriate

Record customer transactions

  • Process sales invoices and credit notes, accounting for VAT
  • Allocate monies received from customers in partial or full payment of invoices and balances

Record supplier transactions

  • Process purchase invoices and credit notes, accounting for VAT
  • Allocate monies paid to suppliers in full or partial settlement of invoices and balances

Record and reconcile bank and cash transactions

  • Process receipts and payments for non-credit transactions
  • Process recurring receipts and payments
  • Process petty cash receipts and payments, accounting for VAT
  • Perform a periodic bank reconciliation

Be able to use journals to enter accounting transactions

  • Process journals for accounting transactions
  • Use the journal to correct errors

Produce reports

Produce these routine reports for customers and suppliers:

  • Day books
  • Account activity
  • Aged analysis
  • Statements or remittance advice notes

Produce these routine reports from the general ledger:

  • Trial balance

Maintain the safety and security of data held in the computerised accounting system

  • Make a copy of accounting data using the backup function of the accounting software
  • Use a software password to protect accounting information

Assignments for the Level 2 AAT Foundation Award in Accounting Software course are completed online via the Internet and full tutor feedback is provided by email. This is to enable students to develop the skills needed to complete computer-based examinations and for this, you will require a computer with Internet access. You will receive instructions in your quick start guide along with login details to access each individual online assignment.

AAT Assessment

AAT will assess your knowledge and understanding of the skills you’ve developed by a computer-based assessment. You can take the assessment as soon as you are fully prepared.

There are several ways to enrol with Premier Training on your chosen course. Simply choose the way that is most convenient to you. Remember our late nights are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, till 8.00pm. If you enrol Monday to Friday before 3.00pm you will receive all your course material the very next day (including Saturday!).
