Association of Accounting Technicians
Certificate Stage
There are no formal entry requirements to join the Certificate stage and students can join regardless of age, education and employment status. South African students will however need reasonable numeracy skills as well as a good understanding of the English language, as the assessments will include a certain amount of report writing.
If you feel that you are weak in either of these areas this need not prevent you from joining the course. Please contact us for details of how we can help you to improve these skills in readiness for starting the course.
To complete the Certificate stage you must complete two units of competence:
Unit 30 - Introductory Accounting
Unit 31 - Accounting work skills
Topics covered include:
- Double entry book-keeping to trial balance
- Checking, banking and recording receipts
- Authorising, making and recording payments
- Petty cash transactions
- Bank reconciliations
- Sales and Purchase day books and ledgers
- Control accounts
- VAT
- Categories and sources of information
- Data Management
- Information storage systems
Please note that as part of the course we will supply you with your own copy of Sage accounting software. This means that on completion you will be able to offer potential employers not only the accountancy skills for which the AAT course has been renowned for many years, but also a full working knowledge of Sage accounts - an invaluable extra skill in today's workplace.
