Association of Accounting Technicians AAT Payroll Qualification
About the AAT
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) was established in 1980 to provide a recognised qualification and membership body for accounting support staff. It is sponsored by the:
- Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
- Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); and the
- Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA) and the
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
The AAT's qualifications are nationally and internationally recognised by employers and without doubt represent the 'gold standard' for payroll training.
The NVQ/SVQs in Payroll Administration are designed to reflect the work of staff in payroll services. They are for anyone already working or looking for work in the payroll functions, whether they are in a large or small organisation, in a bureau, self employed, or want to become a Payroll Administrator.
Many professional qualifications are all about exams. These qualifications are different. Because they are NVQ/SVQs it means you learn by actually doing the work, not just from text books. So if you're studying on these courses you can go to your current or potential employer with real evidence of your ability to do the job.
This means that NVQ/SVQ-qualified staff are sought after by employers and generally enjoy better job prospects and career development than non-qualified staff.
Opportunities for Employment
There are opportunities for employment in the following sectors:
- Professional firms of Accountants
- Industry
- Hospitals
- Colleges/Universities
- Local and Central Government
No prior knowledge of Payroll or formal academic qualifications are required, and certificates are awarded after completing each stage of the examinations. Each level of the course is a full qualification in its own right.
The AAT's international status and reputation as a world leader in accountancy and payroll education and training will mean that your qualification will be respected in all employment sectors all over the world.
