AAT
If you are thinking of studying for the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification, Premier Training is one of the largest AAT providers in the UK and offers an AAT Distance Learning - home study package with all the help and personal tuition needed for success.
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) was established in 1980 to provide a recognised qualification and membership body for accounting support staff.
It is sponsored by the:
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA)
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
The AAT qualification is nationally and internationally recognised by employers and without doubt it is the 'gold standard' for accountancy technician training. It is obtained by means of a practical and relevant education and training scheme that is open to anyone, with or without prior experience.
Premier Training has developed this AAT home study course to ensure that you achieve Accounting Technician status.
At completion, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills in accountancy, taxation, auditing, management and computing which will enable you to work in any area of finance.
The course is extremely flexible and we can build the course to suit the requirements of each individual student. Because the course is modular in nature you can choose when to study and how quickly you want to progress.
Fast -track
For the aspiring young professional we can offer a fast-track course which can be completed very quickly, whilst for the person who already has many other commitments we can offer up to two years to complete a level.
Because our system enables us to tailor the course to suit the needs of individual students, our success rates are generally substantially higher than the average at each sitting (see our results section for more details).
Whatever your needs we can accommodate you.
Course contents
Premier Training will provide each student with:
Textbooks and workbooks for each unit
Sage accounting software (where applicable)
Online assignments
Practice examinations
Telephone helpline
Personal study programme

Examinations
The course is assessed entirely by means of a series of Computer Based Assessments. These can be completed at any time during the year and there are AAT approved assessment centres available throughout the UK
Assignments
Assignments for the course are completed online via the Internet and full tutor feedback is provided by email. This is to enable students to develop the skills needed to complete computer based examinations and for this you will require a computer with Internet access. For students not wishing to complete assignments online we are able to supply a traditional 'paper-based' version of the course. Please discuss this with your course advisor when you enrol.
Work experience
In order to progress to full membership of the Association you must obtain at least one year's relevant work experience. This can be gained in any employment sector before, during or after studying for the Accounting Technician qualification. After this you will be able to become a full member of the AAT and use the letters MAAT after your name.
The Education and Training scheme is highly flexible and you can choose to complete the full scheme, one or more stages, or selected units of competence. Whatever you decide you will recieve an AAT certificate for all your achievements.
You may complete the scheme at your own speed and, on average, full-time employees in accounting can achieve all stages in abut three years.

Which AAT level should I start at?
Level 1 or 2?
A student is normally expected to start at the Level 2 Certificate stage.
However, the AAT recognised that many students were struggling with the content of Level 2 and in response introduced a less demanding Level 1 Access course.
This is designed to help less experienced adults and young students (16-19) gain the skills and confidence to build a career in business or accountancy. It will also help students who are not ready for Level 2 - this may be because they:
lack confidence
speak English as a second language
prefer more support or a stepped approach to grasp the accounting concepts
The opportunity to develop business skills and grow in confidence will help them to move into the workplace or progress to the Level 2 AAT Accounting Qualification.
If you are uncertain as to where you should commence your studies, then try this short quiz it may help you in your decision.
If you have work experience or qualifications within manual accounts there may an option to claim exemption from level 2 and start at level 3.
To assess this, here is a link to the online AAT quiz on the Premier Training website which has questions that are designed to help the tutor’s assess which is the most suitable level for you to start at:
If you wish to take the test, please complete and click submit. The quiz is then emailed to a Premier Training tutor for marking and we will contact you with the result straight away.
Level 3 or 4?
If you wish to claim exemption from part or the whole of Level 3 then please visit the AAT exemptions page on this website - see the drop down menu top left hand corner of this page.
